Affiliate Marketing May Require Disclosure

I just found a couple of posts on this interesting development in the world of affiliate marketing. One, at Copyblogger, the other at Problogger.

I have always been a fan of full disclosure. In fact, I actually stopped promoting an excellent product when I received an affiliate email encouraging me and providing me with step-by-step instructions on how to hide the fact that I was using an affiliate link.

I consider myself to be on the path of the enlightened entrepreneur and therefore integrity is one of my highest personal values and a value that absolutely must be present in my business.

Brian Clark at Copyblogger, points out that he wants to give his readers enough credit to think that they will know he is using affiliate links. I’m not convinced that all blog readers are savvy enough to catch that, especially when the affiliate codes are embedded in already long, complicated links.

So, even as I cringe at the need for outside regulation – as opposed to internal, self-regulation – I, applaud this possible update to the affiliate marketing world and see it as a positive development.

EzineArticles Does It Right

I love when I see well-executed examples of great customer service. Checking my mail on the way back from lunch I had a totally unexpected surprise. I had received a small package from EzineArticles, one of the best article directories on the web (my opinion!). In it was a coffee mug with “I “Heart” Ezine @rticles” on it. And inside the mug was a half sheet of paper with the following message:

Hi,

Thanks for being an EzineArticles.com Platinum-level author!

You’re receiving this small token of our appreciation for sending in yuor best original articles. One by one, we appreciate all of your articles and expect 2007 to be a great year together as we drive more traffic your way

To Our Continued Success Together!

Do you think this little surprise gift worked? You bet. It reminded me of my enhanced status as a “platinum level” author, and got me motivated to update my articles as well as the fact that I have not updated my articles in over four months!

As I’ve immersed myself in creating content for Evolving Times I have dropped a few other balls. Ezine Articles is not a ball that I want to drop.

My article Surrendering To Freedom: Stepping Into Grace was found on Ezine Articles by the Healing Garden Journal and published in their 125,000 subscriber magazine.

So my hat’s off to you, Christopher Knight and the Ezine Articles Team. You’ve done it right.

A Great Law of Attraction Story

I just got an email from a student who is in both the 12-week Law of Attraction course and my Internet Marketing for Deliberate Creators course. She wrote:

Hi Ed,

Well, I had set an intention that my newsletter list was going to hit 4,000 this month, and it’s so very appropriate that you are number 4,000!

Thanks for subscribing.

Jane

I love that!

I just got a “hit” this afternoon that it was time go see what she was up to over at healthychild.com. Go check it out. It’s a great site!

How to Connect Your Blog and Ezine

Suzanne Falter-Barnes has a timely (for me) entry on The Tender Relationship Between Ezines and Blogs. This has definitely been an issue for me. I’ve noticed that as I’ve focused more of my time and energy into this blog, my attention on my email list has slipped. And that’s not a good thing.

For the past few months I’ve been posting my ezine feature article here and I’ve been pretty good about encouraging my ezine readers to come on over here to leave comments about the article. But I have not been as proactive at encouraging my blog readers to sign up for the Evolving Times ezine (along with the other benefits).

Suzanne’s entry definitely gave me some food for thought. For instance, the home page of her blog has a pinned, above the fold subscription form for her ezine. Definitely not subtle, and I bet, quite effective!

You can bet that I’ll be looking to include a signup form for my ezine here as well as other ways to integrate effective cross-fertilization techniques into both the blog and ezine.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you run a blog and an ezine? If so, how do you integrate them? Do they work together or are they independent?

Top 100,000 blogs in Technorati

Hey, I finally broke into the top 100,000 blogs at technorati. As of this moment I’m ranked #98,402! I know, I know. Set Your Intention But Don’t Keep Score. I’m not going crazy. I’m just celebrating a bit. Don’t keep score, yes. But there is value in acknowledging and celebrating milestones along the way to your intention.

When I first discovered Technorati back in August, I was ranked about 600,000. It has been fun watching my rank slowly go up. (Watching without keeping score).

It’s all about balance.

Thanks to all of you who have linked to Evolving Times. You’re making it happen!

Watch for the Law of Attraction Carnival coming out later today.

My Birthday Gift to You

It’s my birthday today and I’m feeling great so I decided to give you a gift. On Friday, my wife, Melissa, took me up to Harbin Hot Springs for a quick overnight birthday getaway. It was a wonderful break; physically, emotionally and spiritually replenishing. I really do feel great and I want to share some of this good feeling with you.

The break got me out of my regular routine and gave me the opportunity to gain a bit of perspective about all the great things I’ve got going on in my life. I came back recharged and ready to jump back into my various projects.

The break had an especially profound impact on my attitude towards the six-week Internet Marketing for Deliberate Creators course beginning September 27th at New College. I’ve been a bit unsure about my level of motivation for this course. Up until now that is.

The perspective from that one day away helped me see just how powerful the information in this course really is. By combining the foundational concepts neccessary to understand Internet marketing with Law of Attraction techniques, the Internet becomes a wonderful playground and laboratory for exploring the Law of Attraction and attracting true abundance into your life.

And because I am now completely thrilled about this course, my birthday gift to you is a truly crazy one-day-only discount on the tuition.

So here is my gift to you.

First, I recognize that many of you on this list don’t live here in the North Bay, so for those of you who can’t attend this New College course in person, for today only, my birthday, I am lowering the price of the distance learning option from $199 to $99. Yup, for today only you can save $100 and get all of the same information as those attending in person via the class recordings, resource binder and online learning environment.

And there’s more: If you are one of the first 6 people to register using this special discount link, you will pay just $49 for this 6-week course!

Am I crazy for offering this course at this price? Just maybe!

Now, for those of you who are able to attend in person on Wednesday evenings, I’ve got a special birthday gift for you too! Here it is. Remember, the regular price for this course is $349. The early bird price which ended on Friday was $299.

For today only, you’ll pay just $199 for this course as my gift to you.

And yes, there is an even sweeter gift for the first 6 of you that register today. Use this special gift link and, if you’re one of the first six to register you’ll pay just $99 for this six-week course.

http://www.cartville.com/app/adtrack.asp?AdID=261658

Yes, I may have gone a bit batty. Perhaps I spent a bit too much time in the hot pool at Harbin! But I feel great and I want to spread this feeling around. And I think that helping some of you get into this course so that you can jump-start your Internet Marketing efforts could be a way to do just that.

Again, here are those special discount links:

To pay $99 for the distance learning option (normally $199) or $49 if you’re one of the first six to register use this link:

http://www.cartville.com/app/adtrack.asp?AdID=261660

To pay $199 and attend the course in person (normally $349) or $99 if you’re one of the first six people to register, use this link:

http://www.cartville.com/app/adtrack.asp?AdID=261658

If you are one of the first 6 to register the extra discount will show up on the registration page, it will not appear on the initial shopping cart page.

Also note that you must use these special links to receive the birthday discount.

Remember the truly crazy birthday gifts are available only to the first 6 people who register for each option. The not-quite-so-crazy birthday gifts are available today – 9/18- only.

I sure do hope that you’ll take advantage of my birthday gift to you and join me for the Internet Marketing forDeliberate Creators course beginning September 27th at New College.

Happy birthday!

Internet Marketing for Deliberate Creators

The Internet is the best example we’ve ever seen of

the way Law of Attraction works in this universe.

–Abraham – Hicks

That quote is from the live seminar I attended recently in San Rafael. I’ve sensed, for many years, that the Internet is a wonderful, vibrant, living realm within which to explore and experiment with the Law of Attraction. But hearing Abraham say it so succinctly helped to solidify that awareness.

Abraham’s observation has done two things: First my excitement level about the Internet Marketing course I’m teaching at New College of California’s Santa Rosa campus this semester has taken a huge leap. And, that comment catalyzed the integration of specific Law of Attraction concepts into the course curriculum.

I’ve changed the name of the course to Internet Marketing for Deliberate Creators. This reflects my desire to specifically attract people who have a basic understanding of the Law of Attraction. In addition to the many specific Internet Marketing tools and techniques presented, this course will also provide powerful processes for actively engaging the Law of Attraction into your online marketing efforts.

And talk about attraction: After I sent out my August Evolving Times E-zine, some subscribers wanted to know if there was a way they could get this information even thought they live far away. It got me to thinking about the power of the Internet and the Self-Paced Distance Learning Option was born!

Now, anyone, anywhere in the world, can access this information and get all of the benefits of the in-person participants (other than being there in the class).

I love this Internet!

Want to find out more? The class starts Wednesday, September, 27th and runs for 6 weeks. If you’re here in the North Bay, I’d love to see you at New College. If you’re not, you can register for the Distance Learning Option and access the information anytime at your own pace.

One million unique visitors by June 2007

Ok, I’m getting serious about this blogging thing, and I’m thinking bigger. Way bigger. The quantum leap from local teacher/coach reaching hundreds of clients/students to a blogger reaching and providing value to potentially millions of readers is, well, quantum! But that’s just what I’m doing. It’s stepping out of a big cushy comfort zone and into a whole new realm.

I know from experience that making a jump like that all in one step is difficult and can be dangerous to your health. So instead of taking one giant leap, I’m going to make it in a set of smaller yet still significant steps.

My intention is to double the number of unique visitors to this Evolving Times blog every month until I reach one million visitors. If my calculations are correct, given my starting point of 1000 (1017 to be exact) visitors in August, by doubling the visitors each month, by June of 2007 I will have 1,024,000, give or take a few thousand!

On the first day of each month I’ll post a screenshot of my visitor stats from the previous month. I’ll also periodically write posts about the specific marketing tools I’m using to generate the monthly doubling as well as the specific Law of Attraction techniques I’m using. I’ll let you know what’s working and what isn’t working so well.

I’m also very open to your input and suggestions. If you notice something I’m not doing that could expand my readership, or if you see something I am doing that is potentially decreasing my readership, please let me know.

I’m thrilled about this experiment in attraction and hope that you’ll follow along over the next few months to see how I’m doing.

Here are my visitor stats for August.
