Have You Seen Randy Pausch’s “Last Lecture?”
Just a quick head’s up in case you haven’t seen this video from Randy Pausch. Randy is a professor at Carnegie Mellon University where the professor’s have a tradition of giving their “last lecture:” the lecture they would give if they were dying. Well for Randy, this is not just an exercise. Randy is dying of cancer.
He gave this lecture on How to Achieve Your Childhood Dreams
I could tell you more about it, but I think I’ll leave it to Randy. However, I will encourage you to spend the full 11 1/2 minutes watching this first video all the way through to the end. There are some truly powerful insights at the end.
Here’s the 12-minute “cliff’’s notes version of the lecture he gave on the Oprah show recently:
And here is the full lecture he presented at Carnegie Mellon. This one is over an hour.

Some Awesome Vision Boards And A Second Chance
Well the official submission deadline for the 2008 Vision Board Invitational has passed. And we’ve got some truly incredible submissions to the contest. Many thanks to all of you who participated in this inspiring event.
What do you think? Should we do it again next year?
It was interesting to note that there were people who left comments or sent an email saying they would submit a vision board for the contest and then there were the people who left comments with a link to their completed vision board.
A few months ago I heard a great recording on accountability with T. Harv Ecker, creator of the Secrets of The Millionaire Mind. He pointed out that every time you say you’re going to do something and don’t, you’re training yourself to fail. Even if you don’t think it’s a big deal, your mind does.
This was a big lesson for me, and one that I’m admittedly still working on. I have huge desires and in the past, my eyes have tended to be larger than my tummy when it comes to making commitments. But when I heard Harv explain this piece of accountability - the inner piece - I got it. And I’ve been slowly changing that pattern and working on under-promising and over-delivering, to others and to myself.
So for those of you who said you were going to submit a Vision Board (either in a comment, an email or even if you just made a promise to yourself) and have not yet done so, I’m extending the submission deadline through this weekend.
You’ll still be eligible to participate in the prize drawing. But more importantly you’ll set yourself up for success in 2008 by completing something you have said you would. For many of you, this will be the start of breaking a long self-sabotaging pattern. So I encourage you to take advantage of this second chance!
Now, for those of you who did already submit a Vision Board, there is a benefit to your on-time submission. You’ll receive two slots in the drawing so your chances of winning will be double those who submit their boards from this point on.
And there’s something even more powerful than any prize I could ever give you: You have set up a pattern of completion, follow through and success in your life. And this pattern will lead you to a great year in 2008!
So congratulations.
And now, here’s the first round of submissions (posted in random order). If these are posted on a blog, be sure to stop by to congratulate them on their successful vision board creation.
(If the image was easily linkable and was not larger than 450 pixels wide, I’ve included the actual image. Otherwise, you’ll have to click on the Vision Board link to see the image).

[End update]
There they are! Let’s give them a rousing virtual round of applause. Great going everyone.
And if you made a commitment to submit a vision board but “didn’t get to it” you now have a few more days.
Think about it; if you can’t “get to” your vision board, how does that reflect on your ability to “get to” your vision?
Last Day To Submit Your Vision Boards!
Today is the final day to submit your entries to the 2008 Vision Board Invitational. If you have not yet created your Vision Board for 2008, it’s not too late. If you set your mind to it, and focus, you can create a highly targeted vision board in less than 2-hours. I’ve done it.
So finish up those boards and leave a comment on the announcement post with a link to your vision board. You actually have until tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 7:00am (pacific time). That’s when I’ll be compiling the entries and posting them.
If you need a little inspiration, go take a look at some of the amazing boards that have already been submitted.
By creating and submitting your Vision Board, not only will you get 2008 off to a powerful, intentional start, but you’ll also be in the running for some great prizes including a complete Simpleology package worth over $400!

Vision Boards And Feng Shui: A Powerful Combination
At Saturday’s vision board group I knew I had to come up with a framework that would enable participants to finish their boards by 1:00pm. Past experience (the vision board 2007 event) taught me that, given free reign to vision about everything, most people would not complete their board in the allotted time.
So narrowing the focus would be crucial. The framework I chose to narrow it down was the Bagua map from Feng Shui. If you are not familiar with Feng Shui, it is the Chinese art or practice of positioning objects based on the flow of chi or energy.

One of the major tools used by Feng Shui practitioners is the Bagua map which lays out nine major life areas and allows you to chart them within your property, home, room, office, desk, etc.
You can download a copy of this bagua map here.
The nine areas outlined in the Bagua map are:
- Wealth and Prosperity
- Fame and Reputation
- Relationships
- Family
- The Center and Health
- Creativity and Children
- Knowledge and Self-Cultivation
- Career
- Helpful People and Travel
I asked the participants to choose just one of these areas to focus on. I asked them to consider what area was most important to them in 2008, which one area, if improved, would have the most profound effect on their entire life?
Most of them came up with a primary life are to focus on in their vision board and for the first part of 2008. Others had two life areas that were equally important. And a few chose to do the entire Bagua!
This person chose the Wealth and Prosperity area:

Obviously when you are creating your vision board on your own, you do not have the same time constraints that we had during the workshop. However, there are still some definite benefits to working with a single, focused life area when creating your vision board.
As I like to say, we can have ANYTHING we want, but we can’t have EVERYTHING we want. At least not all at the same time. So narrowing the focus of your vision board, actually empowers your intentions.
What do you think would be more effective? A vision board with 20 or more intentions, or a vision board that focused on just one or two?
When I began creating Vision Boards several years ago (Back then they were collages or treasure maps) I often put everything I could possibly imagine wanting onto the boards. They were beautiful but a bit overwhelming. And ultimately, my success rate was not that great.
I was spreading my intention energy too thin!
Now, when I create a vision board, I focus on just one life area or just one specific desire. The board I posted yesterday was focused exclusively on the center quadrant of the Bagua map since this is the intangible area I plan to focus on throughout 2008.
And in a few weeks I will create a second board that focuses just on the wealth and prosperity quadrant since my primary, tangible intention for 2008 is to dramatically increase my passive income.
One of the beautiful things about using the Bagua map as your framework is that once you have created a vision board for one of the quadrants, you know exactly where to put it in your home or office to get the maximum energetic benefit. Just look at the map, find that area of your home and put your vision board there.
And one last note: Another way to combine the Bagua map with your vision board is to overlay the map onto your board and choose images for each area of the board that represent the corresponding Bagua areas.
That’s what this person did:

So when you’re creating your entry for the Vision Board 2008 Invitational, keep in mind that with vision boards less is often more. Consider picking one life area to focus on. And then, when those intentions manifest, move on to the next area!
And don’t forget to submit your vision board by Monday, January 14th for a chance to win one of the great prizes including a complete Simpleology package which will absolutely facilitate the attraction of your desires!
Just leave a comment on the Vision Board Invitational post with a link to your board and you’ll be entered!
And please pass this on to anyone you know who could benefit from creating a Vision Board!
Law of Attraction Emotional Scale Redefined - With Help From Marshall Rosenberg
I’ve been teaching this Law of Attraction thing for five years now. And in all that time I’ve struggled to find the right language to explain what Abraham-Hicks calls the emotional scale.
Most of the teaching and writing defines the emotional scale in terms of “good” and “bad” feelings, “positive” and “negative” feelings, “high vibrations” and “low vibrations.”
None of those definitions have felt right to me. Those definitions contribute to the continued, erroneous belief that some emotions are “negative” and should be avoided. In my opinion, and the way I teach the Law of Attraction, all feelings are positive, powerful indicators of our present state. Our emotions, all of them, provide us with some of our clearest guidance on the journey of deliberate creation.
The other day I picked up a little book by Marshall Rosenberg, the creator of Non-violent communication, called, Being Me, Loving You: A Practical Guide to Extraordinary Relationships (Nonviolent Communication Guides).
When I read the following passage, a big, bright, lightbulb went off for me:
When I wrote my first book [Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life: Create Your Life, Your Relationships, and Your World in Harmony with Your Values] I put in a list of positive feelings and a list of negative feelings. Then I noticed how people think negative feelings are negative. Since that’s not what I wanted, in my next edition I put the words “positive” and “negative” in quotes, but that still didn’t seem to help. Now I write, “feelings present when our needs are being met” and “feelings present when our needs are not being met” to show how valuable they both are because they are both talking about life.
I knew that Marshall was on the right track. But it wasn’t quite right.
When we approach our lives from the perspective of deliberate creation we must accept that our needs are always being met. Whatever is in our life is in response to something we have “asked” for. Remember, the Law of Attraction is always working!
But Marshall’s phrasing led me to what I think is a great definition of the two ends of the emotional scale.
Feelings present when we are allowing our desires.
And
Feelings present when we are resisting our desires.
When we look at the emotional scale from this perspective, it’s easier to see that all of our emotions are necessary and beneficial.
When you feel excited, you know that you are being given a positive, beneficial sign that you are in a state of allowing your desires. Be grateful and see if you can move even deeper into a state of allowing!
But when you feel angry, realize that, here too, you are being given a positive, beneficial sign that you are resisting some desire. Give thanks! And see if you can begin moving closer to a state of allowing.
Both of these experiences are positive. Indeed, every piece of input from your emotional guidance system is valuable and can lead you closer to your desires. If you let them!
So when you notice strong - or even not-so-strong emotions - see if you can begin thinking about them in these terms: “Is this an emotion of allowing or of resistance? Am I allowing my desires or resisting them?”
By asking this question, you discover where you are on the emotional scale and can begin to take the small, incremental steps to move up. (Not to better emotions but rather to a space of more complete allowing).

For this edition it was no easy task choosing the featured entries. It seems that with every edition, the quality of the entries gets better! And that is great.
So let’s jump right in and begin with those featured entries. But don’t stop there. You’ll find a wealth of great material in all of these entries!
Featured Entries
Let’s start with a great entry from Aaron M. Potts on 10 Things you Can’t do with the Law of Attraction. This is a must read for anyone that might be thinking that the Law of Attraction makes everything possible. Sorry! At least not at this point in our personal and planetary evolution. This one’s posted at Today is that Day.
Next up is Mark McManus at Build Your Life To Order ™, who gives us If the Law of Attraction is True, Why was Jesus Crucified? This is a truly insightful and very dense article. Give yourself some time to read it and contemplate the ideas.
Next, Scott Lee at Scott Free Thinking shares his thoughts on how to Design Your Life, Like a Paint Brush. I particularly enjoyed reading his list of the 7 Hermetic Principles and seeing where they align with the Law of Attraction.
Leave it to Raymond David Salas to bring the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox (I don’t think he knew that I grew up near Boston) into his exploration of the Law of Attraction in his entry, Does The Law of Attraction Really Work? It’s posted over at ZenChill.com Power Tools Blog.
Nneka at Balanced Life Center, opens up an interesting conversation with her post, The Secret Remixed: How Does The Law of Attraction Work? Why do some of the things we desire manifest while others don’t? And why do some of the things that manifest in our life have a clear connetion to a thought while others don’t? Good questions to ponder, even if the answers aren’t immediately obvious.
And finally, a new contributor to the carnival, Chris614 at The Philosophy of Change.com gives us Bart Simpson Hates Writing Affirmations. This entry provides some truly helpful ideas - based on his personal experience - about how to effectively use affirmations.
That’s it for this edition’s Featured Entries. Remember, to be eligible for the featured entry section, submit your best articles, make sure they are focused on the topic (if there is a specific topic) and provide a link back to the carnival.

MindMovies Are The New Vision Boards
I just came across a new product that has the potential to significantly amplify our Deliberate Creation work and activate the Law of Attraction.
I’m always exploring new techniques and tools to help my clients and friends (and myself) become more effective Deliberate Creators. MindMovies
looks to be just such a tool.
Normally I would wait and tell you about it after I’ve used it, but this looks so good I want you to have the opportunity to jump in and get started now. I’m going to be making my MindMovie this weekend!
Here’s a short clip from the intro site. (Personally, I’m not a big fan of the hard rock tunes they used on their videos, but I’ll get to use whatever music I want when I make my own).
I think the power of this tool is two-fold. First, the creation of the movie provides an amazing opportunity to get clear about what you want. Clarity leads to power and attraction!
And second, there is a lot of power in the combination of images, words/phrases and music that you have chosen. I don’t know about you, but music has a huge impact on me. And by creating and watching movies that incorporate inspiring music that I have chosen, I know I will be ready to kick it up a notch!
And if any of you Law of Attraction bloggers out there are reading this and think this tool could help your readers - I certainly do! - consider signing up for the affiliate program. It’s a great way to increase abundance in your life while helping your readers to do the same in theirs!
Gotta Get Goals or The Grandest Version Of The Greatest Vision I’ve Ever Had
Alex Shalman at Practical Personal Development has initiated a new personal development meme. (Well, it’s not so new anymore, since this post has been sitting in my drafts folder for a couple of weeks)! This one is called “Gotta Get Goals.”Here is what Alex says about Gotta Get Goals:
“In a new blog post, list and write about the top 5 to 10 goals that you gotta’ get so that you can truly say you have achieved your wildest dreams in life. These have to be your best, most exclusive, and over-the-top goals that you can pick off your goals list.”
I need to acknowledge that I have a bit of a semantic problem with the term “goals.” Personally, I equate goals with the specific smaller steps you take along the journey to achieving your “wildest dreams.” When I think goals, I think SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-based).
When I hear “wildest dreams,” on the other hand, I think in terms of my life vision. The phrase “the grandest version of the greatest vision I’ve ever had,” that Neale Donald Walsch speaks of in his Conversations with God books comes to mind.
I don’t want my grand life vision to be SMART! I want a life vision that will draw out the biggest and best in me, and do so for a long time to come!
So how to approach this meme? Goals or dreams? SMART or outrageous? How about a compromise?
Here are a few of the long-term visions for my life, intentions that I will create within the next 6-months to 5-years.
Here they are:
- Grow my Law of Attraction/Personal Development Training Company into a million dollar a year company by positively transforming the lives of thousands of people through seminars, retreats and products.
- Write and publish two or more highly successful personal development books. Pretty self-explanatory.
- Achieve Total Financial Freedom: Financial freedom is not an end to itself. Rather, achieving total financial freedom - meaning that I never MUST work again - is a clear indication that I have fully aligned with the natural state of abundance that is my - and everyone’s - birthright. And it gives me the freedom to do whatever I want, whenever and wherever I choose. I like that!
- Lead An Environmentally Neutral (or even generative) Life: I consider myself to be a steward of this Earth. As such, I choose to walk with the lightest possible footprints. Unfortunately, we live in a culture and at a time when ecological neutrality, not to mention generativity, is hard to come by. One of my “wildest dreams” will become reality when my actions have a net-neutral (or even positive) impact on the sustainability of this planet.
- Have unfettered access to the wild mountains and the warm ocean: Nature is where I go to recharge and reflect. My “dream” life absolutely includes lots of time in and near wild places. This intention is still open in the specific form it will take. Will I own a cabin in the Sierras and on a beautiful tropical beach, or will I rent vacation homes in various places around the world? Not sure yet. I’ll keep you posted!
Now it’s your turn. If you have a blog, go ahead and post your biggest intentions, grandest goals and wildest dreams.
If you don’t have a blog, feel free to use the comments here to share your “Gotta Get Goals!”
I’m going to tag the following folks. Yes, many of you have probably been tagged already. (I told you, this post has been sitting in my drafts folder for two-weeks).
