Are You Ready to Step Out of The Fear and Into the Fun?
You know those butterflies you get in your stomach when you go over a hill while you’re driving, or swinging really high at the playground, or zooming down the big hill on a roller coaster? My daughter and I call them “Whoop-dee-doops.” As we’re driving, she’ll say, “Dada, I got a whoop-dee-doop.” And I’ll say “Me too. That was a good one!” “Uh huh!” She replies. Well, I don’t know about you, but this economic roller coaster ride we’re on is giving me lots of whoop-dee-doops! And, while I’ll admit that they don’t all feel great, I’m mostly enjoying the ride and having a really fun time with so many opportunities for growth and expansion. You see, it really is like a roller coaster ride. When you wait in line, give the attendant your ticket and climb into that car, you know you’re not going to climb out right when it gets to the top of that first big uphill. Nope, you’re going to get that thrill and that whoop-dee-doop on the way down. We’re in a similar situation right now in our lives. We’ve waited in line, gotten into the car, made it to the top of that first big hill and now we’re on the way down. Too late to jump out! So we might as well enjoy the ride. I mean, we’re on it anyway! And that’s just what I’m doing! Awakening to Greatness Retreat Begins Today
I’m am totally jazzed! The Awakening to Greatness 3-day retreat begins today. This is a big step out of the comfort zone for me. It’s the first time I’m leading a multi-day retreat at a retreat center! I’ve had a lot of opportunities for growth and awakening myself this week as I’ve prepared for the retreat!
And now that I seem to have gotten most of the glitches out of my system I can’t wait to get up to Lake Tahoe and do some amazing work this weekend.

Dalai Lama’s Instructions For Life
Well these instructions from the Dalai Lama are floating around the email world again. This time they come with the command to forward them to all of your friends so that your life improves. There is even a scale to let you know how much your life will improve depending on how many people you forward this to. I guess you’re destined to live a life of mediocrity if you don’t have many friends!
A quick investigation at Snopes.com confirmed my suspicion that these are not from the Dalai Lama, but are, in fact, a subset of the list in the book Life’s Little Instruction Book: 511 Suggestions, Observations, and Reminders on How to Live a Happy and Rewarding Life by Jackson Brown and H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
But even though these don’t come from His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, I think these instructions are worthy of passing along anyway. So with thanks to the Brown’s, here they are.
- Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
- When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
- Follow the three Rs:
- Respect for self
- Respect for others and
- Responsibility for all your actions.
- Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
- Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
- Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
- When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
- Spend some time alone every day.
- Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
- Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
- Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.
- In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
- Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.
- Be gentle with the earth.
- Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
- Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
- Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
- Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.
Day 8 Of My 21-Day Clinical Detox Program
Well I’ve been on the cleanse for a full week now and I feel great! My energy level is consistently high, although I am sleeping more than usual. I have been going to bed by 10:30 and getting up between 6:00 and 7:00. I tried to stay with my normal 5:00am wakeup time but it just seems like my body needs more sleep as it goes through the detox process. That may change as I move through the program.
It’s interesting to notice how different the detox reaction is this time. The first time I went through this program, back in the late winter, I had about 3-days of a low-grade headache and extremely low energy. This time, my energy level is great and there has been no headache but my muscles have been aching. So it seems as if the toxins are coming out of my muscles this time.
I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. Feels OK.
And one of the things I’m loving about doing this cleanse at this time of year is that I can just walk out to the garden and get fresh greens. Ideally, you’re supposed to have greens with every meal while on this diet. I’ll just walk out back and clip some chard, kale or mustard greens and add them to whatever I’m having - even my morning smoothies! It’s great.
You may still be able to join the cleanse. You’d be a week behind the rest of us, but most of us will keep going on the diet for at least a week after the 21 days. And it’s awesome to be going through this program with a whole bunch of other folks.
