Of Boogers and Baggage
WARNING: Disgusting child humor ahead. May be inappropriate for non-parental units!
Do you remember Rosanne Rosanadana – Gilda Radner’s character back in the golden days of Saturday Night Live?
Well I had a good laugh this morning when my daughter reminded me, unintentionally of one of the most hilarious Rosannadana skits. You know the one I’m talking about… Boogers! Getting stuck on one finger and then you try to flick it off and it gets stuck on the other finger and then you try to pull it off and it starts stretching…
Well this morning, Ella and I were sitting on the front porch eating our oatmeal when she realized that she had a booger in her nose. She started trying to blow it out but could only get it to the opening. It wouldn’t come all the way out. I could see it hanging out there, so tempting!
But then she reached up ever so daintily and grabbed it, pulled it out and said, “Ta Da!”
I congratulated her on her success and handed her a napkin to wipe it off. But she said, “No I’m going to throw it over the fence.” (The porch railing is what she meant).
So she walked over to the railing and started shaking her hand and saying “Go away. Go away. GO AWAY!”
I started chuckling as I watched her shaking and flicking and trying to get that darn booger off her finger. Finally I had to get up and walk into the kitchen to keep from bursting out in laughter!
All the way into the kitchen I could hear her shouts of, “GO AWAY” getting more and more insistent.
I went about my business in the kitchen, getting her lunch ready for camp and finally, she came running in and said, “I did it!”
“Great job!” I said, wondering how she had finally managed to jettison that unwanted baggage.
Now there really is a point to this. And if you’ve read this far I appreciate your patience – especially for you non-parental unit types!
You see, those sticky boogers are a lot like our emotional baggage and the limiting thoughts, beliefs and patterns that come with it: We try to shake them off, flick them off, knock them off, bash them off, but they just won’t go away.
And like Ella, when we realize that they are not going away, our tendency is to keep doing what we’re doing… just more of it!
We go into this “No more mister nice guy” routine. The problem is that doing more of the same is not going to get that booger off or make that limiting belief go away.
I mean let’s face it, some of those little boogers – literally and figuratively speaking – are pretty darn sticky! So shaking your hand harder is not going to get it off.
The solution is to stop doing what you’ve been doing and try a different approach. In the case of a booger a good solution would be to use a tissue or a handkerchief, or to rinse it off in the sink, or even to rub it off on a tree!
Brute force is not going to make it go away. And brute force is not going make those limiting beliefs go away either.
So the next time you find a little booger stuck on your finger… or rather, the next time you find yourself stuck in an old pattern of limitation, stop what you’re doing, take a step back and see if there’s a different way to approach it. Obviously the way you’ve been approaching it up to now has not been working very well!
When you do step back, get a new perspective and take a different approach, you may be surprised to discover how easy it can actually be to get those little boogers out of your space!

Video: Good Is Not Good Enough!
We didn’t come into this world to be good. We did not come here to be mediocre. But that’s where the vast majority of people get stuck.
Most of us were taught to just get by, to play it safe, stay under the radar screen and make no waves. If we do that, we’re told that we’ll get a good job, make a decent living and, if we’re lucky, get the gold watch when we retire.
Well I don’t know about you, but that vision of life is not what I have in mind. I’m going for greatness!
That’s why I’m here. That’s why you’re here: To awaken our greatness and bring it out into the world.

The Deliberate Creator’s Declaration of Independence

When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary to dissolve the Mental, Emotional, Physical and Energetic bonds which have connected one person to another, and to assume among the powers of the Earth, the separate and equal privileges to which the laws of the Universe entitle them, their own self-respect requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Deliberate Creators are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creative Source with certain unalienable rights and that among these are life, liberty, abundance, joy and the pursuit of happiness.
To secure these rights, certain thoughts, beliefs and ideologies have been instituted among men and women, deriving their just powers from the consent of the people. And whenever any of these thoughts, beliefs or ideologies becomes destructive to these unalienable rights, it is the responsibility of Deliberate Creators to alter or abolish them, and to institute new ones, laying their foundation on such principles and organizing their powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to empower their natural states of abundance, joy and love.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that beliefs long established should not be changed for light and transient causes. But experience has shown that individuals are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the beliefs to which they are accustomed. But when existing thoughts, beliefs and ideologies sabotage, subvert and ultimately destroy the will of Deliberate Creators, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such belief systems, and to create and embrace new beliefs that empower their strength, prosperity and evolution.
Such has been the patient sufferance of these Deliberate Creators; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former systems of thought, belief and ideology. The history of the existing Prevailing Belief System is a history of ongoing injury and usurpation, having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these Deliberate Creators.
To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.
- This belief system would have us base our actions on fear.
- This belief system holds that we lack personal power.
- This belief system affirms that we are unable to manifest our desires.
- This belief system defines the world as a dangerous place.
- This belief system alleges that scarcity and lack is our natural state.
- This belief system asserts that we are meant to struggle and suffer.
- This belief system avows that vulnerability, intimacy and trust are weaknesses.
- This belief system affirms that we are unworthy, undeserving and not good enough.
We, therefore, the representatives of the Deliberate Creators of the World, appealing to the Creative Source for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name, and by the authority of all Deliberate Creators, solemnly publish and declare, that we are, and of right ought to be free and independent from the Prevailing Belief System; that we are absolved from all allegiance to those beliefs and that all Mental, Emotional, Physical and Energetic connections between us and the Prevailing Belief System, are and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as free and independent Deliberate Creators, we have full power to attract our desires, seek ever greater joy, engage in inspired action, bask in the limitless abundance of this Universe, and do all other things which true Deliberate Creators may of right do. And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of the Creative Source, we mutually pledge to each other our support, our encouragement and our sacred honor.

How Will You Celebrate YOUR Independence?
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
Happy Independence Day!
As you know, here in the US, today is the day we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence (although it was actually signed a few weeks later) which declared our freedom from the Kingdom of Britain.
For most of us, Independence Day, or July 4th, has become a good time for a barbeque and fireworks. And there’s nothing wrong with a fun barbeque and a great fireworks display. In fact, we had our town fireworks last night which we watched from a neighbor’s balcony after a nice barbeque. It was great!
But since I’m not one to pass up a perfect opportunity for personal growth, here’s a suggestion: While you’re grilling up some great food and “oohing” and “ahhing” over the spectacular fireworks display, take just a moment or two to declare your independence from something that restricts your freedom.
In 1776, the leaders of what then were the Thirteen Colonies said “No more” to the tyranny of British rule. They declared their (our) freedom!
These leaders new, full well, that their actions would escalate what is now known as the Revolutionary War. But they were willing to fight for their freedom. They were willing to fight the “good fight.”
For these great men (and I’m sorry to say that no women signed this document) the good fight was described like this:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
What holds you back from fully living? What restricts your liberty? What prevents you from fully engaging in the pursuit of happiness?
Check out this section (emphasis mine):
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
Change just a few words in that section and you could easily be talking about the thoughts, beliefs, patterns, and habits that hold us in our comfort zone. Most of us are far more “disposed to suffer” in our comfort zone, that place we know so well, than we are to “right ourselves by abolishing the forms to which we are accustomed.”
Well today is the perfect day to declare your independence from some “Form” to which you are accustomed, one that restricts your freedom.
So lift a beer today and give a toast to freedom: Your freedom!
Choose a thought, belief, pattern or habit that holds you back and commit yourself, today and from this day forward, to the path of freedom!
And if you want to give your declaration a little oomph, speak this concluding line from the Declaration of Independence:
And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

Are You Ready To Run Your Car On Water?
There’s been much talk about H20 powered vehicles recently. A few months ago, Mark Joyner, the creator of Simpleology, went and investigated a company in England that claimed to be able to run a diesel engine on 50% water.
Now, there’s a company in Japan that claims to be able to run a car on water alone!
Too good to be true?
Look at it this way, back when Henry Ford was attempting to mass produce automobiles most people said it was impossible. What did Ford say?
“If you think you can or you think you can’t, either way, you’re right!”
I don’t know about you, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this technology. And who knows, in a few years we may be driving around in Water-Powered cars!
